As we quickly near the holidays, many are beginning to think about traveling to see their families; however, with COVID-19 still running rampant, many have changed their minds and decided that it might be best to stay home this year. Even so, it’s never a bad idea to learn how to pack lightly for when you do decide to travel again.
Finding Your Key Pieces
Traveling light and still looking fashionable doesn’t mean you have to compromise one for the other. You can always pack stylish pieces while either ruling the boardroom if it’s a work trip or slaying the streets in casual fashion items. The trick to doing so is narrowing down the key pieces that you want to style then finding multiple ways to style those pieces. Correlate the number of items that you need with the number of days that you will be there. This will help you narrow down the pieces you need to take and eliminate any excess you might need.
Suppose it’s going to be cold; pack two of your favorite jackets. Usually, you can get away with a denim jacket and a faux leather motorcycle jacket — or something similar. These two items can create tons of looks just by switching up a few of your paired items.
When it comes to tops, choose a neutral pallet. A white or black crewneck or v-neck tee will work well to style with things like a blazer or a jacket. A simple blouse can style with a pencil skirt or a pair of dress slacks. That same pencil skirt can be dressed down with a simple pair of sneakers and a change-up of a blazer to your denim jacket.
If it’s cold where you are going, but you want to pack a dress or two, you can easily pair a sweater over top of a dress styled with a belt to help cinch in the waist. Again an outfit like this can be dressed up or down given the accessories. Your faux leather jacket and a pair of booties can give it a great downtown dressed-up vibe, while paired with chunky sneakers and a denim jacket can pair it off for a casual errands vibe.
How To Pack these items
Styling tips help you develop ways to mix and match outfits, but what’s the best way to pack all of these items? Start by pairing a few of your looks together, enough to get you through your first few days, depending on how long you are staying. To pack, you can try several different methods; however, a few favorites are rolling your items together or filling them in smaller travel bags. Both have their advantages. By rolling your items, you can see what is packed together. If you want to try the other route by packing in smaller bags, you will be more organized when it comes to labeling bags for specific days. You could still do the roll method to pack in the little bags; it will depend on your space.
Packing Toiletries and Cables For Charging
Packing your toiletries is probably the easiest part of packing. Pack the items you will use most often into one bag, such as your makeup, as it will help eliminate too much clutter in one bag. Personal hygiene items can go in a separate bag. That way, you do not have to drag your entire suitcase into the bathroom with you while you are getting ready for the day.
Getting away may still seem impossible right now, with most of the world still on lockdown, but we can still dream about where we want to go and what we want to see. For now, these tips should help you plot a more organized trip when the time comes.
